The Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology

Submission of an application for a place for postgraduate study in the Astbury Centre is a two stage process:

1. Complete the form below to register your interest in applying for a place in the Centre
2. Make a formal application for a University place either by downloading an application form and mailing it to us, or using the University on-line application system.

This page will guide you through the process. Help is available for Javascript enabled browsers at various points in the form.

During the completion of the form you will need to select potential PhD supervisors - the form will guide you through this process but if you have not already identified these members of staff you should follow the 'people' link on the left to view the staff and their research interests. Please note that most staff are eligible to hold studentships under either of the two schemes, but occasionally may only appear on one of the two lists. Please choose appropriately.

4. Choice of Course of Study and Supervisor

The Astbury Centre holds funding for PhD study from a number of distinct sources. The two major funders are the BBSRC Doctoral Training Grant (DTG) which supports 4-year PhD studies and the Wellcome Trust 4-year PhD programme. This latter programme funds four years of study, but the first year is spent carrying out 3 laboratory rotations and a number of taught modules before finally choosing a research project and supervisor for years 2-4.

Please note the criteria for eligibility for the schemes. The BBSRC DTG is open to UK and EU nationals (although EU nationals may only be eligible for fees without any subsistence payments depending on residency status). This scheme is not open to overseas students. The Wellcome Trust scheme is open to all applicants but pays fees at the UK/EU rate. We have one scholarship available per year to pay the full international fees.
